Sittingbourne manager Nick Davis looks ahead to Velocity Trophy second-round tie at Corinthian

Sittingbourne will tonight aim to progress in the Velocity Trophy and manager Nick Davis intends to treat the tie like a league game.

The Brickies travel to Gay Dawn Farm to face league rivals Corinthian, who are bottom of Isthmian South East.

Davis hinted he may introduce some of the club’s younger players but will, nevertheless, be taking the contest seriously.

Speaking after the weekend goalless draw with Chatham, he said: “We have got 16 or 17 players, and we’ll stick with that and maybe introduce one or two of the youngsters potentially. I’m not sure.

“We haven’t had loads and loads of games, really. We have had two or three Saturdays without a game.

“We’ll just treat it as a normal game - as a league game really - and then train and then we’ve got Haywards Heath on Saturday.”

Kieron McCann had made a bright start on his debut at Woodstock but had to come off in the first half and, on Twitter on Sunday, he revealed he had suffered a broken jaw.

“What a debut. 30 mins played, broke my jaw in two places,” the midfielder wrote,

“Operation tomorrow.”

But his replacement was not a bad one, former Football League midfielder Jason Banton taking his place.

The Brickies boss said: “He’s come back having not played for four weeks and Alex Addai was similar. Our bench was crazy, really.

“It’s the first time we’ve had 16 players and we had to leave one out of the squad altogether and that’s the first time we’ve done that. We have had to scratch around for our squad.

“With the three additions we have brought in, it gives us different options. Going with two up top.. Why not?

“If we change that during a game, then so be it. We just want to be as unpredictable as possible, really.”
