Sir Jim Ratcliffe's latest money-saving plan for Man United dubbed 'embarrassing'

Punditry pair Jason Cundy and Jamie O'Hara have lambasted Sir Jim Ratcliffe for his latest "penny-pinching" plan at Old Trafford.

In a bid to cut travel costs (and carbon emissions), it's understood the Manchester United co-owner suggested his club's two Ballon d'Or nominees share a flight with Manchester City, who have eight players nominated for awards in Paris on Monday. Young talents Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are both vying for the Under-21 Kopa Trophy, while City boast several stars up for the main accolade.

However, it seems Pep Guardiola's team dismissed the idea following reports that City quickly turned down Ratcliffe's proposal. The mockery didn't stop there, though, as Cundy and O'Hara took shots at the billionaire for even proposing it.

"Sir Jim Ratcliffe, an absolute joke. Penny-pinching at its finest," raged ex-Wolves midfielder O'Hara, introducing Ratcliffe as one of their 'losers of the week' on talkSPORT. "Asking Manchester City if they can share the flight and put [Alejandro] Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo on there so they can go to the Ballon d'Or.

"Imagine Tottenham asking Arsenal to share a jet with their players. What is he thinking? And what are Man United doing? An absolute joke!"

Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Rodri and Ruben Dias are each nominated for the Ballon d'Or, while Guardiola is up for Coach of the Year and Savinho is in the running for the Kopa Trophy. That's in addition to Lauren Hemp, Yui Hasegawa and Khadija Shaw, who are each on the shortlist for the women's Ballon d'Or.
