After acquiring a 27.7 per cent stake in the club in February, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has wasted no time implementing long overdue changes off the pitch at Manchester United.

The Failsworth-born businessman has appointed Omar Berrada as the club's new chief executive, installed Jason Wilcox as their new technical director and wants to make Dan Ashworth their inaugural sporting director. Such appointments are both ambitious and forward-thinking.

United have not acted like an elite-level club off the pitch in recent years, meaning Ratcliffe has been left with no choice but to make sweeping changes to the boardroom. Come the summer transfer window, he will be tasked with making them on the pitch.

There is no denying that United need to make serious changes to the landscape of their first-team squad this summer, both via bringing players in and letting players go. Ratcliffe wants United to become best in class once again and that means shaking things up.

Ratcliffe, ambitiously, set a target of knocking both Liverpool and Manchester City "off their perch" within the space of just three years in February. It was a brave statement, but it was one that set out his intentions.
