Sir Chris Hoy turns up for work just hours after tragic cancer announcement

Sir Chris Hoy showed up for work just hours after news of his terminal cancer diagnosis shocked the sporting world.

The Olympic hero presented the BBC's World Track Cycling Championship coverage alongside Jill Douglas on Sunday afternoon, bravely continuing as normal. As the BBC's live coverage from Denmark began, Douglas introduced her fellow presenter, asking him how he was doing without any explicit reference to his illness. And Hoy, who has said he does not want any pity, replied in resolute fashion, not mentioning the tragedy that has engulfed his family.

The Olympic hero is set to fly out of Denmark with his family later on Sunday to begin a two-week break away from the spotlight. While his children are aware of his diagnosis, they do not know about Sarra's condition, which is also incurable.

Earlier on Sunday he posted on social media to reassure his fans he was doing ok. "You may see in the news this weekend some articles about my health, so I just wanted to reassure you all that I'm feeling fit,
