Sinkhole opens up on street with road shut off both ways

A road in Salford has been shut off after a large sinkhole opened up.

Liverpool Street was closed off in both directions between Derby Road and Weaste Lane after the hole appeared.

The sinkhole - which has been fenced off with barriers - is near the junction with Church Avenue.

Some bus services are being diverted away from the area.

In a tweet posted on Friday morning, TfGM said: "Liverpool Street, Salford is closed in both directions between Derby Road and Weaste Lane.

"This is due to a sinkhole in the road.

"Bus services will be diverted during the closure so please check with your operator before travelling."

A spokesperson for Salford Council told the M.E.N that highways officials are currently looking into the sinkhole.

It has not yet been confirmed when the road is expected to be reopened.
