Simon doubles in Spurs' home WSL romp
Matildas striker Kyah Simon has scored twice as Tottenham romped to a 4-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion in the Women's Super League while Sam Kerr's Chelsea won to set up a top-of-the-table showdown with Arsenal.
Simon opened the scoring for Spurs in the 12th minute and added to her personal tally after goals from Ashleigh Neville and Shelina Zadorsky -- the three second-half efforts all within six minutes of each other to cement victory.
The win closed the gap on third-placed Manchester United to a single point.
Guro Reiten got the goal for Chelsea in a 1-0 victory over Manchester City.
Reiten's 14th-minute glancing header was enough as the Blues sit two points behind Arsenal, but with a game in hand.
Matildas captain Kerr will come up against her national teammate Steph Catley when the Gunners' visit Kingsmeadow on Friday evening.
Chelsea, who were indebted to keeper Ann-Katrin Berger for a fine 40th-minute save from Jess Park, might have extended their lead during a strong start to the second half, but found themselves hanging on at the death with England defender Millie Bright clearing Lauren Hemp's goalbound strike off the line.
