'Sign him up' - Manchester United given transfer instruction after Jurrien Timber comments

Manchester United fans are eager to see Erik ten Hag make a move for Jurrien Timber after the defender’s latest comments.

The centre-half has been hotly tipped to make an Old Trafford switch this summer. He was reportedly a favourite of Ten Hag’s during his Ajax tenure.

The Dutch coach is keen on bringing in another centre-half before the start of the 2022/23 season following United’s dismal defensive showing this campaign. Timber has now broken his silence on the rumours around a United transfer.

“In the end, my gut feeling will be the deciding factor,” he said. “The picture has to be right.

"You can go to a big club. But if you're not going to play there it's better to stay with Ajax. And Ajax is also a big club.

"Of course, I can develop further (at Ajax). I am 100 per cent sure of that. I don't feel like I'm done at the club. But I can also develop at other clubs.”

Timber added that he will make a decision on his future after his holiday. His words have been met with a mixed reaction from United fans.

Some on Twitter and in the Manchester Evening News comments section have sympathised with Timber’s desire for game time guarantees.

MichioK: Seems a sensible lad to me. He's young, still learning, and wants to be sure he won't regress at a 'bigger' club by not playing as much. I'd be happy if he comes but I agree with him, it has to be the right move for him too.

@Marcky411: Everyone has seen how Maguire is undroppable and Varane and Lindelof have shared partnering him. If I was Timber I too would want some guarantees of playing time.

@DirteeDe: Translated he wants guaranteed game time. He isn’t willing to make the same mistake
