Newcastle United 'offered chance' to sign wantaway Manchester United man

Newcastle United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign wantaway Manchester United defender Eric Bailly this summer.

The 28-year-old featured just a mere four times for the Reds last season, with Newcastle known to be in the market for a new centre-back. The Magpies are still said to be keen on the idea of Sven Botman joining the club, however, a number of potential alternatives are now being looked into.

According to reports via The Mirror, the former Villarreal defender has been offered to Eddie Howe, with Bailly currently behind Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane in the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Suffering AFCON heartbreak with native side Ivory Coast earlier this year, the centre-back is said to be valued at £10-12million with his Premier League experience a key factor in a potential move.

The defender did however caused controversy with ex-interim boss Ralf Rangnick, returning from international duty later than expected and with fresh injury concerns too.

Bailly then pleaded for more game time via Instagram, in which the now Austria head coach was forced to address in a later press conference. "If it’s true what you told me, it’s not the right sign and should not happen in a football club, no matter what league," Rangnick told the media.
