Shotts rocked by 'horrible' injury double during Drumchapel defeat

Shotts were rocked with two horrific injuries to new signings during their 2-0 West of Scotland Premier Division defeat at Drumchapel United on Saturday.

Barry Eley needed emergency surgery on a fractured arm, while Ally Small broke three bones in his foot.

Boss John McKeown said: “Barry was in a bad way at the side of the park. It was horrible to see, and we had to wait on an ambulance.

“Ally Small was taken to hospital, he’s got three broken bones in his foot.

“Those are two new signings. It’s terrible luck and sums up this first week in the Premier League for us.

“It has been a really tough test, and unfortunately we’ve come out of it with zero points, and that’s the main factor of it.

“It’s gutting, but sometimes it’s a wee bit more than football when you see two good kids in a lot of pain.

“It was horrific for team-mates, who had to form a guard around about them to stop everybody seeing how much distress Barry was in.

“It wasn’t nice, it was a horrible moment, as a manager, to see your players having to see their team-mate like that.

“And seeing two good kids injured is horrible, never mind the playing side, because they will be two major losses.”

McKeown thought his side were going to bag their first top-flight win, ut the injuries made a huge impact.

He said: “Barry and Ally were excellent for us on Saturday, and we looked as if we were finding our feet in that first half.

“We were brilliant. I thought they were going to go on and win the game, and then when they got injured we lost a goal right after Barry was carried off.

“Because play was delayed for about 10 minutes, we switched off at a set-piece and they scored.
