Sheringham slams ‘disgusting’ Man Utd downturn and names biggest question that needs answer
Teddy Sheringham has launched a withering attack on Manchester United’s hierarchy, warning incoming manager Erik ten Hag that he faces a huge task to turn the club around.
Speaking exclusively to TEAMtalk, United’s 1999 Treble-winning hero didn’t hold back in his assessment.
He labelled this season “disgusting” for the fallen giant amid defeat at Crystal Palace to end the campaign. That was their 12th loss of the season which helped mark the worst Premier League campaign on record for the Red Devils.
What’s more, their Champions League qualification hopes came to an end long before the season did.
That key failure came partly as a result of Ralf Rangnick being unable to inspire his players. The interim boss was in charge following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking in November. However, abject performances were a feature of both coaches’ time at Old Trafford this season.
Sheringham subsequently admitted that he feels stunned by the lack of leadership at all levels at Man Utd this season.
And he warned that the misery will continue unless there are huge structural changes at the highest levels. He also urged the truth to emerge over who made the key decisions at the club this season.
“I sum it up by saying it has been absolute chaos from the top down,” the pundit told TEAMtalk at a bookmakers.co.uk event.
“At the start of the season, Ole obviously fell out of favour and lost his job, but what happened after that was hard for most of us to understand.
“Tthe club didn’t have any real plan of what to do after that. They put Michael Carrick in for a couple of weeks and then he left.
“Then they got another interim manager in for a the rest of the season in Rangnick and that didn’t work.
