Sheppey United take on a Gills XI in a friendly match at Holm Park on Tuesday night after a 4-0 pre-season win over Beckenham Town with goals from new signings Mo Dabo and striker Shaquille Gordon
Sheppey United face another testing pre-season examination on Tuesday night when they host a Gillingham XI.
With Gillingham's senior squad in action at Dover on the same evening, the Ites are expecting a youthful, hungry side packed with players keen to impress as preparations for the new season continue.
Joint manager Ian Batten expects a similar challenge to the one his side faced against Bromley last midweek – which ended in a 2-1 win - and wants his players to approach the contest with the same intensity they would a league fixture.
He said: "I think it's going to be similar to Bromley, in terms of they're going to be fit and well-organised.
“I'd imagine there'll be quite a few youngsters that are going to want to impress, so we'll have to match that, get our tackles in.
“Although these are not games where the results really matter, you want to get something out of them and just treat it like a league game.
“We’ve had some good competitive friendlies so far. I know 4-0 at the weekend against Beckenham sounds like a thumping but they didn’t give up, it was good."
Sheppey United are likely to include several former Gillingham players in their line-up.
Josh Chambers has signed for the Ites this summer and has made a positive impact in pre-season.
Fellow midfielder Ben Clark is another ex-Gill along with Danny Leonard, who started out in the youth team at Priestfield.
Sheppey go into the game on the back of that convincing 4-0 victory over Beckenham Town.
New signing Mo Dabo marked the occasion with two goals, joining the club following a successful trial.
Striker Shaquille Gordon has also earned himself a permanent move after impressing in pre-season.
Gordon netted against his former club, Sheppey's third goal. Leonard
