Sheppey United completed their pre-season schedule with games against Greenwich Borough and Rochester United in between taking on the assault course at Betteshanger Park

Sheppey United had a pre-season trip to Betteshanger Park at the weekend - where they took on The Boonies!

The obstacle course provided a perfect opportunity for a bit of team bonding ahead of the new Isthmian League South East season, with some physical endurance for the players – and some of the staff.

“Our trip to Betteshanger was brilliant,” said joint-boss Ian Batten.

“The boys really enjoyed it. It was tough for them and they weren’t half put through their paces!

“The instructor’s first words were ‘I’m not here to break you - but you are going to be working very hard!’.

“A few of our lads weren’t sure once he’d said that but we had a great time, it was great for team bonding.

“There was a lot of blood, sweat and tears shed, but there was a lot of laughter as well, so it was worthwhile.

“I had a go at a couple of things but unfortunately didn’t have a spare pair of clothes! They were getting into really dirty water, things like that, so I am pretty glad I swerved it.

“We only had three or four missing due to other commitments. Steve Aldridge, our first- team coach, did the whole thing and, fair play to him, he was superb.

“He didn’t back out of any of it and I bought him a well-deserved pint afterwards.”

Sheppey had played Greenwich Borough in their penultimate pre-season match on the Friday night before their trip out.

The Southern Counties East Premier Division side ran out 3-0 winners as they showed a more ruthless side in front of goal.

Sheppey rotated their squad, had quite a few players missing and were looking at a few trialists.

Mo Dabo (hip injury) and new signing Harlain Mbayo weren’t risked, Josh Wisson wasn’t available and both Shaquille Gordon (metatarsal) and Mamadou Diallo (hamstring) remain out.
