Sheppey United manager Jack Midson calls for improvement in FA Cup replay at Newhaven

Sheppey are facing their second FA Cup replay in as many rounds tonight.

They’re off to Newhaven following a frustrating goalless draw at Holm Park on Saturday.

Boss Jack Midson expected better after seeing his side thump Athletic Newham 6-0 in an extra preliminary round replay five days earlier, Warren Mfula with a hat-trick.

But they have an opportunity to finish the job tonight, with the winners home to Isthmian Premier Lewes on September 3.

“We were quite disappointing, really, after the highs of the replay,” said Midson.

“We’ve taken one step forward and two back.

“I try and see the positives that we didn’t lose and we get another chance.

“We took it in the previous round, we got away with it in that one and were excellent in the replay.

“If you want to create FA Cup memories, you’ve got to get through these games.

“On our day we’re a really good side, we can match teams in National South, but if you want those decent draws and those memories, you’ve got to turn over lower teams.

“We made it too easy for Newhaven on Saturday.

“We need to impose ourselves on them more, like we did in the replay in the last round.

“The league is our bread and butter but it would be great to have a cup run - I’m not going to be moaning about a fixture backlog.”
