Sittingbourne's second chance in FA Cup after two late goals force Fisher replay

Sittingbourne are aiming to make the most of an FA Cup let-off when they meet Fisher in a replay.

The Brickies trailed the Southern Counties East side 2-0 with 90 minutes on the clock on Saturday.

But Samuel Amedu’s own goal and a Harrison Pont strike, after Harry Harding’s penalty was saved, earned a replay at Woodstock tonight.

The winners will host Spelthorne Sports, of the Combined Counties League, in the first qualifying round on September 3.

“We were on a hiding to nothing going to Fisher, it’s a game we were expected to win,” said manager Nick Davis.

“I said to the players before the game I just want to get through to the next round, I don’t care how we play, but we were so bad in the first half, I let them have it at half-time.

“Second half, we’ve made a mistake and they’ve scored, their tails are up, they were the better side and fair play to them.

“Another mistake and they’ve scored again and then, with 20 minutes to go, you might as well lose 5-0 as 2-0, it’s a cup game at the end of the day, you’re either in or out.

“We threw caution to the wind and changed the way we played and we got a lot of joy from it.

“We scored one, got another and we might even have won it at the end.

“We didn’t play well at all but we showed character to come back it when the game was dead and buried.

“I’m just pleased to be in the hat - we got away with one.

“Fair play to Fisher. They at deep and we couldn’t get in behind.

"They let us have the ball and it was down to us to make opportunities and create space but we didn’t do that for the majority of the game.

“We’ve got a Plan A and a Plan B and when we implemented Plan B it caused problems.

“There’s more than one way to score a goal or win a game and we’re still in there.
