Sheppey United have signed Gillingham’s young midfielder Ben Clark on loan while Damien Theodore has joined fellow Isthmian South East side Hassocks

Gillingham have sent two of their young pros out on loan and they made debuts for their new clubs in a game against each other on Saturday.

Forward Damien Theodore has joined Sussex side Hassocks on loan and was up against club-mate Ben Clark after the fellow Gills youngster signed on loan for Sheppey United.

Clark was named on the bench for The Ites and came on as a 77th-minute substitute in the 1-1 draw.

Theodore - who was involved with the Gills first-team during pre-season - played the full game and had a part to play in the equalising goal, which came on 58 minutes for the home side

Clark, 19, was offered professional terms by the Gills in the summer and heads out for competitive football, agreeing a month-long loan deal with Isthmian South East side Sheppey.

The Ites have taken a number of young players on loan in recent seasons, including Sam Gale.

Theodore joined the Gills from Burgess Hill and went back there on loan at the start of this season, making six appearances for them before signing for The Robins, who said he had joined them “for the next few months.”

Elsewhere, Gillingham’s young defender Logan Dobbs continued to feature for Welling United, who have an interim manager in charge following Lee Martin’s sacking last week.

Dobbs has been a regular starter for the Wings and continued to feature on Saturday for Rod Stringer’s side, playing in a 3-0 FA Trophy win at Royston Town.

Former Gills right-back Luke O’Neill is Stringer’s caretaker player-assistant at Park View Road.

There was penalty shootout success for loan keeper Taite Holtham’s side, however, after an FA Trophy thriller.

The young stopper was in goal for the Nuts & Bolts against Biggleswade in the third qualifying round tie that finished 3-3
