Sheppey United Football Club are inviting applicants for the chairman role after Steve Manning’s decision to vacate the position

Sheppey United chairman Steve Manning is to step down from his role, with the club now seeking a successor.

Mr Manning, a local businessman, took over as chairman in January 2025, replacing Tony Hughes.

The club has confirmed that Mr Manning will remain in the position until a new chairman is appointed to ensure a smooth transition.

Applications are now open for the voluntary role, with the deadline set for 10pm on Friday, October 16.

A statement from Sheppey United said: “Sheppey United Football Club can confirm that Steve Manning will be stepping down from his role as club chairman in the near future.

“We wish to express our gratitude to Steve for his dedication and the time he has devoted to the club.

“To guarantee a seamless transition, Steve will remain in his post until a successor is appointed.

“With Steve's upcoming departure, applications are now open for the voluntary position of club chairman.”

The successful candidate will take on a wide-ranging role, acting as the club's strategic leader and official figurehead while working with shareholders, directors and senior club officials.

Responsibilities include overseeing the club's long-term sporting, commercial and operational strategy, chairing board meetings and the AGM, and ensuring compliance with football governing bodies and legal requirements.

The chairman will also work alongside the treasurer and senior board members to oversee the club's finances, including budgets, major expenditure and commercial strategy.

The club says the role will also involve planning for the long-term future of its facilities, including the replacement of the current 3G pitch, which is expected to be required in approximately six years.
