Sheppey United captain Danny Leonard marked his 200th appearance for the club with the opening goal in the 1-1 draw with Broadbridge Heath on Tuesday night

Danny Leonard celebrated a landmark appearance for Sheppey United on Tuesday night with a goal.

Leonard made his 200th appearance for the Ites and was presented with a commemorative gift by vice-chairman Lee Allen and joint manager Ian Batten ahead of the home game against Broadbridge Heath at Holm Park.

He opened the scoring in the midweek match just before the break but the visitors hit back in a match that ended 1-1.

The former Gillingham youth player first played for Sheppey under former boss Ernie Batten before returning following a spell with Dartford. He now plays under Ernie’s sons, joint managers Ian and George Batten.

“I think because we’re management, he’s trebling the fines. We don't even argue, and they’re even taking card payments now!”

His goal against Broadbridge Heath was his 52nd for the club.

On Saturday, Leonard was also in the thick of it. He produced the cross for Oghosa Williams to open the scoring against Hastings United.

The Ites took a 67th-minute lead but couldn’t hang on, conceding twice in two minutes as Hastings turned the game around to win 2-1.
