Sheffield Wednesday weighing up the possibility of bolstering squad in key area

Sheffield Wednesday are weighing up the possibility of drafting in a new goalkeeper who will be able to serve as a back-up option for David Stockdale and Cameron Dawson next season, according to a report from Yorkshire Live.

As it stands, the Owls will currently only be able to call upon the services of two senior keepers as Joe Wildsmith will leave the club at the end of June.

As confirmed by the club’s official website, Wildsmith has turned down the club’s offer of a new contract and thus will become a free-agent when his existing deal reaches a crescendo.

Although Wednesday could turn to academy players Pierce Charles and Jack Hall for inspiration in the upcoming campaign, it is understood that manager Darren Moore is mulling over the possibility of bolstering his squad in this key area of the pitch.

The Owls have already made a swift start to their business this summer as they have signed some fresh faces.

As well as signing Stockdale on a free transfer, Wednesday have swooped for Ben Heneghan and Will Vaulks who joined the club yesterday.

With the new season set to get underway in July, it will be interesting to see whether the League One outfit decide to engage in more transfer activity in the coming weeks.

Signing another keeper this summer could prove to be a smart bit of business by Wednesday.

If Stockdale and Dawson suffer injuries at the same time during the upcoming campaign, the Owls will need their third-choice keeper to step up to the mark at relatively short notice in what is a very important role.

Providing that Moore is indeed on the lookout for another shot-stopper, he may find it beneficial to focus on signing an individual who has featured in the third-tier before.
