Automatic promotion still looks a big ask for Sheffield Wednesday this season.

But an eight-point gap to second-placed Wigan Athletic is not insurmountable.

Teams will nervously be looking over their shoulders after the Owls' impressive surge up the table.

"We see teams come in late, some teams that have been up there all season fall away," said captain Barry Bannan.

"But there's still a lot of football to be played and a big job ahead of us, but if we keep going the way we're going and keep working how we have been, I'm quietly confident."

Fifth-placed Wednesday made a dream start to their March fixture programme, brushing aside Burton Albion 5-2 at Hillsborough.

Here is a look at the Owls' remaining matches this month compared to their promotion rivals.

Wednesday visit the LNER Stadium on Saturday and will be backed by over 2,000 fans as they go in search of a fourth league win in a row.

The Imps are hovering perilously close to the relegation zone after recording just one victory from their last seven matches. They are currently sitting just four points above the bottom four after a run of three straight defeats.

A section of the Imps fan-base has called for Michael Appleton to be axed following their alarming slump in form. Lincoln have lost 10 out of their 18 home matches.

But the Imps held the Owls to a 1-1 draw at Hillsborough back in October. A late header from Lewis Montsma earned them a share of the spoils and the clash should serve as a reminder that it won’t be an easy assignment.

It is worth mentioning too that the Imps have a certain Chris Maguire in their ranks. The former Owls forward has claimed five goals this season.
