Sheffield Wednesday man pens heartfelt message to supporters as questions remain over his future
Chey Dunkley is confident Sheffield Wednesday will bounce back strongly from their League One play-off disappointment and "go one step better" next season. The Owls face a second successive year in the third tier after losing 2-1 to Sunderland over two legs in the semi-finals of the end-of-season extravaganza.
A dramatic stoppage time strike from Patrick Roberts broke Wednesday's hearts at Hillsborough and booked the Black Cats a place in the Wembley final. Promotion to the Championship will be on the line when Sunderland go head-to-head against Wycombe Wanderers a week today.
Centre-back Dunkley has penned a message to Owls fans on his social media accounts this morning. He wrote: "Very tough one to take and as a team we are all devastated not to get this club back into the higher league.

"Although we are sorry not to achieve this; I know that apologies won't be enough as we all desperately wanted to end this season on a high through our actions. Nevertheless, I do not doubt the commitment and endeavour my team have shown and with the core players left for the next season, I know that the aim and the focus will be very much the same to go one step better as success isn't a straight line.
"Thanks for all your amazing support this season as you really did come out in numbers and personally supported me through some lows in this season; it is appreciated. Have a great summer as we recharge out batteries for the on coming season. Dunks."
The 30-year-old is one of a number of players in the final weeks of their Owls deal. When asked by a Wednesday fan on Twitter if he is staying, Dunkley replied: "Not necessarily. No talks
