Sheffield Wednesday linked with Championship forward as Owls step up striker search

Striker is one of the priority positions for Sheffield Wednesday in the summer transfer window. Lee Gregory's future continues to be uncertain, as the 31-year-old has Championship interest, but regardless of his future, Darren Moore would like to add another centre-forward to his squad.

It has emerged that Barnsley's Cauley Woodrow is reportedly one of the players being looked at as an option, with the 27-year-old having scored 16 goals in his last season in League One, as the Tykes won promotion in 18/19. He followed that up with 14 goals in the Championship in 19/20, as Barnsley secured survival in the division on the final day of the season.

The striker then scored 12 and assisted a further six in an excellent season where the South Yorkshire side surprisingly finished in the top-six, only to lose out to Swansea in the play-off semi-finals.

However, Woodrow missed 18 games injured in 21/22 and Barnsley were relegated from the Championship, as 20/21 proved an anomaly of a season, rather than one they would go on to build from. He scored only four goals in his 28 appearances.

According to Sunday Mirror journalist Darren Witcoop, fellow League One clubs, Portsmouth and Ipswich are also said to be keen on the striker, as well as the Owls. Meanwhile, Barnsley are unlikely to want to lose their captain to divisional rivals. Woodrow is coming into the final year of his contract though, which could force Barnsley to accept offers for the player.
