Sheffield Wednesday: 'Failure' claim emerges involving Darren Moore

Anything other than promotion this season for Sheffield Wednesday will be seen as a failure for Darren Moore, according to former Owls midfielder Carlton Palmer.

Wednesday have got better as the season as progressed, but they remain in the thick of a top six race heading into the final seven fixtures of their League One campaign.

After dropped points against both Accrington Stanley and Gillingham already this month, Moore’s side bounce back by beating Cheltenham last weekend and took full advantage of Sunderland not being in action to climb back into the play offs.

The Owls sit sixth, and while they’re just two points ahead of the Black Cats, only goal difference is keeping them below fifth place Oxford.

Wednesday have a favourable run of fixtures with only one of their seven remaining games against sides that are currently inside the top six, although Wycombe and Portsmouth are two of their more difficult encounters.

If Wednesday get enough points to gain their ticket to the lottery, Moore will have a one in four chance of getting the job done, but Palmer reckons that it’s promotion or bust for the Owls manager.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “He has the best squad in that league, he has the best squad of players in that league, they pay the highest wages in that league, so not getting promoted this season would be seen as a failure. I expected them to go up automatically.”

Before Wednesday consider winning the play offs, they need to book their place in the end of season campaign.
