Sheffield Wednesday close to finalising Malik Wilks move from Hull City

Sheffield Wednesday are closing in on a deal for Hull City attacker Mallik Wilks. The Tigers are believed to want a £200,000 fee for the Leeds-born, 23-year-old with the Owls ready to hand him a two-year contract, as reported by Hull Live.

Talks have been ongoing regarding Hull's asking price for Wilks, who netted three times in 20 appearances last season in a campaign when he suffered injury issues and a loss of form. But, during two previous spells in League One, he has plundered 33 goals in 90 appearances.

When on loan at Doncaster from Leeds in 2018/19, he helped Rovers to the League One play-offs by netting 14 times and, two seasons later, he hit the target 19 times as Hull ended the 2020/21 campaign as champions of the division. With Rotherham's 25-goal talisman Michael Smith having been added to the Owls' ranks this week and Lee Gregory ending last term by scoring nine goals in his last ten outings, a swoop for Wilks should certainly provide Hillsborough chief Darren Moore with an enviable level of potency at third-tier level.

At the end of last season, Hull exercised an option to extend Wilks' contract at the MKM Stadium by a further year, but that move was designed with the intention of securing a fee for his services, knowing that there would be plenty of interest in the forward, who has 52 senior goals to his name during 188 outings in all competitions. Despite the drop down in division, Wilks is also understood to be keen on a Hillsborough switch.

If Wilks does sign for Wednesday, at 23 he would be the youngest of Moore's summer recruits. Five players have so far come through the Hillsborough door with an age range from 28 to 36.

They are David Stockdale (36), Smith (30), Michael Ihiekwe (29), Ben
