Sheffield United stance on Max Lowe revealed as Steve Cooper plots Forest raid for left-back

A report from the Sheffield Star has suggested Sheffield United will look to extend the contract of Max Lowe now the season is finished, with Nottingham Forest hoping to sign him permanently.

Lowe joined Sheffield United in September 2020, as part of the deal which also took Jayden Bogle to Bramall Lane. According to Sky Sports, the double transfer cost the Blades £15million.

While Bogle soon began to show his class for Sheffield United, Lowe struggled to get into the starting eleven.

The left-back only made 11 appearances during his debut season at the club, with eight of those coming in the Premier League.

With Enda Stevens and Rhys Norrington-Davies also in the United squad, Blades officials allowed Lowe to go out on loan in summer 2021.

The 25-year-old went on to sign for Championship rivals Nottingham Forest.

Lowe has had a top campaign with the Reds, despite struggling with groin problems for several months. He registered one goal and four assist in 23 games, helping Cooper’s men to gain promotion via the play-offs.

Forest beat United in the semi-final after a dramatic penalty shoot-out, but Lowe was ineligible to play due to the conditions of his loan agreement.

The Sheffield Star claim Cooper would like Forest to sign Lowe permanently. Clearly, the Englishman has made a big impression on his temporary boss.

But sources have told the outlet that United may actually extend Lowe’s contract in South Yorkshire. And Forest chiefs expect the Blades to do this.

The new deal would last until June 2026 and may be used to put Forest off a move. Lowe’s current deal with United runs out in 2024, meaning they aren’t currently at risk of a free-transfer exit.
