Sheffield United stance on Sander Berge is clear amid interest from Leeds United

Sheffield United are yet to receive any contact from Leeds United for their Norwegian international Sander Berge. The 24-year-old has been linked with interest from their Yorkshire neighbours, but Yorkshire Live understands officials at Bramall Lane have had no contact from their counterparts at Elland Road.

The club are expecting the midfielder to be the subject of plenty of interest. Clubs were practically placed on alert during the recent round of international matches when his future was addressed by his national team coach Ståle Solbakken.

The player himself hinted it would be taken care of when he returns to Bramall Lane for pre-season and talks with manager Paul Heckingbottom could follow.

He said: "After the national team gathering, my agents, me and the club get to take care of it. I've had a nice development at Sheffield United lately. Then we will see what the future brings."

United's players return for pre-season next week but those who have been on international duty, such as Berge, will be allowed an extended period if they require.

Berge, who signed from Genk in January 2020, has a £35m release clause in his contract following relegation from the Premier League, which would allow him to speak with other clubs if an offer for that price is met.

Agents acting on his behalf are understood to be assessing if clubs are interested in taking the Norwegian, who has featured 66 times for the Blades and found the net on eight occasions.
