Sheffield United secure another signing with Bosnian international Anel Ahmedhodzic

Sheffield United have completed the signing of defender Anel Ahmedhodzic. The 23-year-old has joined from Swedish side Malmo and put pen to paper on a contract until 2026 at the club's training base in Portugal this afternoon.

The Bosnian international had spent the second half of last season on loan at Bordeaux but United moved to secure his services when it became clear the French side, who had a first refusal option, were not in a position to take that up.

Yorkshire Live also understands several clubs, including AC Milan and Lille, had registered their interest and it was also reported at the weekend that Blackburn were attempting to hijack the deal with a last-minute move.

However, Sheffield United have today announced they have got the deal over the line and he becomes Paul Heckingbottom's third signing of the summer. He follows goalkeeper Adam Davies and midfielder Tommy Doyle through the door.

Ahmedhodzic is not short on experience. Not only did he feature 15 times in the French top flight last season, coming up against Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in the 3-0 defeat to PSG, but he has also featured in the Champions League.

He was part of the Malmo team that played Juventus and Chelsea in the group stages and also did the double over Rangers in the early rounds.

The deal was first reported by Yorkshire Live last month and he will now take part in the remainder of United's pre-season tour.
