Sheffield United's Billy Sharp receives stitches after incident following play-off defeat

Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp has received stitches after he was the victim of an apparant attack by a fan following the Championship play-off second leg at Nottingham Forest.

Blades star Sharp was pictured watching on from the sidelines as Forest fans celebrated their penalty shoot-out victory over Paul Heckingbottom's side. Footage appears to show a supporter collide with the 36-year-old, leaving him floored.

Reports from the City Ground say Sharp received treatment at the stadium for injuries.

Sheffield United won the game 2-1 on the night to take the tie to extra-time, but were denied by three penalty saves from Forest keeper Brice Samba. Forest will now face Huddersfield Town in the final at Wembley later this month.

Blades boss Heckingbottom said after the game: “It’s assault. We’ve seen one of our players attacked. He’s shuck up, bleeding, angry. It’ll be dealt with.”

Covering the game for Sky Sports, former Forest defender Michael Dawson condemned the incident, saying: "That is an absolute disgrace."
