Sheffield United need Dean Henderson scenario for Wolves' Morgan Gibbs-White summer transfer

Football supporters are often told 'never fall in love with a loan player', but that has been extremely difficult for Blades fans this season. They have been here before, of course, with Dean Henderson and are back in a similar position now with Morgan Gibbs-White.

The Wolves loanee has proved one of the most inspiring signings of recent years when he joined for the season from the Premier League club in August. The attacking midfielder, who has proven most adept in a number 10, has provided Sheffield United with their main source of attacking flair and spark.

Ten goals and eight assists from his midfield berth has been most impressive. And not only has his 18 goal involvements contributed just short of a third of the team's total Championship goals, but he's also just three behind talisman and striker Billy Sharp (14 goals, seven assists).

When he returns to Molineux in the summer, Paul Heckingbottom will have a huge hole to fill when trying to find someone who can bring that level of creativity and end product to the side next season. With only one league match remaining and, hopefully, three more in the play-offs, Blades fans are preparing to see the last of the midfielder in a red and white shirt.

Heckingbottom has made no secret of the fact he is a huge fan of the 22-year-old.

"It's certainly been a good loan for both parties, but it's not our decision," he said last month when asked about the possibility of him being here beyond this season.

"Morgan knows what we think of him, he knows we would love to have him here. It's irrelevant what we think, it's irrelevant what Morgan thinks, it's down to Wolves."
