Sheffield Eagles confident of causing Hull FC problems as Mark Aston discusses 'tough gig'

Sheffield Eagles boss Mark Aston is confident his Championship outfit can cause problems for on Saturday afternoon. The two clubs meet in the sixth round of the Challenge Cup at Featherstone’s Post Office Road stadium and it’s fair to say Aston’s side are in a confident mood.

The Eagles have started the season well and they approach this weekend’s clash on the back of four successive wins in which they have scored 188 points. That run includes a 54-4 win over Workington Town, while Whitehaven were swept aside 44-6 last weekend in Cumbria.

As such, it’s clear that Sheffield know where the try line is and with the Super League experience of Ben Jones-Bishop and Kris Welham in his ranks, Aston believes they can provide tricky opposition for the Black and Whites.

“Hull is a tough gig but one in which there’s absolutely no pressure on us whatsoever,” Aston told the Yorkshire Post. “We can go out there, give a good account of ourselves and see what happens.

“If we play like we’ve been playing we’ll ask them some questions.”

On his Sheffield side’s recent form, he added: “Some of the stuff they’re doing at the moment is top draw and long may it continue. When I watch them in training they excite me and we’ve got some experienced players.

“Did we expect to be racking up 44 points at Workington on Sunday? No of course not, but when the sun’s out it’s going to suit us.”
