Shane Duffy sends four word message to former Brighton midfielder after Celtic transfer

Brighton & Hove Albion defender Shane Duffy has sent a congratulatory message to former Seagull Aaron Mooy after he joined Celtic.

Mooy initially signed for Albion on a season-long loan in 2019 before making the move permanent six months later. However, after only a few months at the club, Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG snapped him up when they activated his £4million release clause in August 2020.

Graham Potter hailed the midfielder's brief time at the club at the time, saying: "I have really enjoyed working with him, and on behalf of everyone at the club I would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him well for the future."

Now joining Celtic, the Australian was congratulated by an old team-mate of his in Duffy, who left a short message on the club's Instagram post announcing the signing. "Go on the boy," wrote Duffy with a heart-eyed emoji alongside it.

Duffy also spent time in Scotland with the Glasgow side, spending a season on loan there in 2020 where he won the Scottish Cup and helped the Bhoys finish second in the Scottish Premiership. However, his time with his boyhood club did not go entirely to plan, with the Brighton defender falling out of favour while with the Hoops and coming in for criticism from some supporters for his performances.

After returning to Brighton last summer, Duffy impressed in the early stages of the season at the heart of the Seagulls defence, helping Albion get off to a fine start in the Premier League campaign. In total, he played 23 times for Brighton last season, while he also played eight times for Republic of Ireland.
