Shamed cop jailed after sickening finds on his mobile phone

A disgraced cop is tonight behind bars after taking covert photos of a victim of crime in her own home - and storing naked pictures of a vulnerable teenage girl on his phone.

Anti-corruption detectives discovered the images on Lancashire Police officer Joel Choudhury's mobile in May last year as part of a separate investigation.

The 44-year-old, from Lytham St Annes, was suspended from duty and later charged with three counts of misconduct in public office and one count of making indecent images of a child - relating to the images taken from the vulnerable 16-year-old's phone. He had been working in Preston at the time.

Choudhury - a response constable in Lancashire Police's South Division - pleaded guilty to all the offences at an earlier hearing and was added to the Sex Offenders Register. Today, he appeared again at Manchester Crown Court where he was jailed for 16 months and handed a seven-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, LancsLive reports.

Choudhury resigned from the police earlier this year but a hearing was still held in June where gross misconduct was proved. The former cop will never be allowed to work in law enforcement again.

Det Chief Inspector Pete Reil said: "Choudhury's behaviour was completely reprehensible and not compatible with anyone who has the privilege of wearing a police uniform. I welcome the sentence handed down today and hope it demonstrates to the public that this behaviour will not be tolerated by Lancashire Constabulary or the courts.
