Seven-try Brumbies put Fijian Drua to the sword in Canberra

The Brumbies had far too much firepower for newcomers Fijian Drua in Saturday's Super Rugby Pacific clash at the GIO Stadium, running out emphatic 42-3 winners.

A 40-10 defeat against the Waratahs last week proved to be a real baptism of fire for the Super Rugby debutants from Fiji, and there was no let-up from the Brumbies in Canberra in week two.

Three unanswered tries in the first half set the Brumbies on their way, before four more five-pointers after the break put the result beyond any question.

After an early scrum penalty allowed Noah Lolesio to open the Brumbies' account, the opening try arrived in the 10th minute when a driving maul took Lachlan Lonergan over the line.

The second try arrived within minutes of the first, a superb team effort that started in the 22 and ended with Tom Banks breaking free down the right-hand touchline and beating several defenders to score.

Ten minutes later, another line-out maul did the trick, as Irae Simone handed it off to Len Ikitau for the Brumbies' third try.

Only a TMO review saved the Drua from giving up a fourth try shortly after from a five-metre scrum, with the fourth official spotting a knock-on in the build-up from Darcy Swain.

The Drua finally got on board just before half-time when a breakdown penalty went their way, and Baden Kerr slotted it over.

Unfortunately, there would be no comeback after the break for the Super Rugby newcomers.

The Brumbies picked up their fourth try seven minutes into the second half when Ryan Lonergan burst down the right and freed up Tom Wright with a nice little pop-pass for the score.
