Servette facing Rangers Champions League crisis as SEVEN players missing stretches squad to the limit for Ibrox trip

Servette boss Rene Weiler will be denied the services of SEVEN players due to injury and suspension as he looks to pull off another against-the-odds Champions League qualifying win against Rangers at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

The Swiss side face a mounting early season injury crisis as they fly into Glasgow with third thirds of a team crocked and striker Enzo Crivelli unavailable after his senseless red card in the second leg of their second qualifying round tie against Genk left them with all to do in Belgium.

But they managed to pull it off with a backs-to-the-wall performance earning them a 2-2 draw before going into to win a dramatic penalty shootout. The display was all the more remarkable given the fact they lost first choice goalkeeper Jeremy Frick on the night and journeyman shot-stopper Joel Mall went between the sticks and became a shutout hero. Frick is still unavailable and is one of seven stars on the treatment table. The biggest issue for Weiler comes in the right back position. Former Rangers loanee Kevin Mbabu – one of the infamous Newcastle Five who arrived as part of a job lot when Mike Ashley had his Ibrox links – was on loan at the club from Fulham last season but has since left.

That saw Weiler dip into the transfer market to sign Keigo Tsunemoto, a player the Servette boss knew from his time in Japan. But he picked up an ankle injury and has been ruled out for a month. Rookie right back Theo Magnin was thrown into the team before he also picked up an injury and that means central defender Nicolas Vouilloz will be forced to play as an emergency right back.
