Serie A chief flashes warning over manager and star striker that Man Utd and Arsenal must be wary of

Bologna's chief executive has hit back at reports manager Thiaggo Motta and top goalscorer Joshua Zirkzee could both move to Manchester United this summer. The duo are in demand after the Italian side's fantastic season.

Motta, the former Barcelona and Paris St Germain midfielder, was surprisingly linked with the Old Trafford hotseat last week. Current manager Erik ten Hag is understood to be under serious pressure to save his job.

Ten Hag's position is in doubt after the introduction of co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos team. They are looking at all football operations, and assessing potential managerial candidates should they decide the Dutchman isn't the right man to take United forward.

Zirkzee, meanwhile, is also claimed to be on United's wishlist as they look to bolster their attacking options in the summer. The striker has 11 goals this season. and is tipped to be handed his Netherlands debut this month.

Both Zirkzee and Motta have played their part in Bologna's storming success, with the unfancied side charging up to fourth in Serie A. Unsurprisingly, the form has attracted interest from elsewhere, but the club's CEO Claudio Fenucci wants both to stay.

He said: “The coach was the architect of this growth and we hope both he and the players will remain with us. Thiago is very happy in Bologna, it’s as if he had a longer contract than he actually has.

“About Joshua - we don’t like to talk much of the future of our players, we prefer to live every moment of the present, there is great enthusiasm. In any case, the desire would be to keep everyone.”
