Sergio Ramos: When Real Madrid legend realised he wasn't captain anymore at PSG

During a glittering career at Real Madrid, Sergio Ramos won pretty much everything there was to win, much of it as captain.

Having celebrated five La Liga titles and four Champions League wins with Los Blancos, Ramos departed the Bernabeu when his contract expired last summer – after 16 years in the Spanish capital.

Making the headline-grabbing switch to Paris-Saint Germain on a two-year deal, Ramos took to Twitter to hail the Ligue 1 giants as the “best club” for him and his future.

“The best place to keep on dreaming, the best club to keep on winning,” wrote Ramos. We’re going to fight with everything we have for everything. Allez.

“PSG is a club that has already proven itself at the highest level. I want to continue to grow and improve at Paris and help the team to win as many trophies as possible.”

A statement packed full of positivity, but Ramos’ first season in the French capital could hardly have gone any worse.

In an injury-ravaged campaign, the 36-year-old managed just twelve appearances in Ligue 1 last term, four of which came as a substitute. He also failed to play a single minute in the Champions League for the club.

So rarely did Ramos pull on a PSG shirt in 2021/22, that a pre-season promotional video shot by the club turned out to be one of the few times fans actually saw him decked out in their full home kit.

The clip quickly went viral, but perhaps not quite for the reasons that PSG intended.

During the 10-second clip, Ramos can clearly be seen checking his sleeve for the captain’s armband that he wore so proudly at Real for six years.
