Serena Williams set for sensational return to Wimbledon as she confirms ‘it’s a date’

It has been one of the best kept secrets in tennis in recent years, but Serena Williams has confirmed that she will play at Wimbledon this year.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner has not played any competitive tennis since last year’s Championships when she slipped during her first-round match at SW19 and picked up a serious leg injury.

Following her lengthy absence from the WTA Tour, the tennis great was not on the Wimbledon entry list as she has slipped to outside the top 1,000 in the WTA Rankings.

There have also been question marks in recent months about whether or she would retire as she had given no indication if she would play at all in 2022.

But on Tuesday she confirmed on Instagram that she will play at Wimbledon with reports saying she will also feature at Eastbourne next week.
