'Secret' Celtic friendly announced with Brendan Rodgers set to take his team to England before US tour

Burnley have announced a 'secret' pre-season friendly against Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers' side have already faced Ayr United - managed by former Hoops captain Scott Brown - and Queen's Park, playing out a ten-goal thriller against the Spiders at Lesser Hampden. The Premiership Champions are set to jet off to the United States for a pre-season tour. They'll play DC United in Washington, but first up is a glamorous double header against Manchester City in North Carolina and Chelsea at the famous Notre Dame ivy league college in South Bend, Indiana.

However, another game back in the UK has been pencilled in but not yet announced by the Parkhead club. They'll take on Burnley, fresh from their relegation from the English Championship, with the Clarets confirming a number of pre-season games, including a clash with Hearts. However, these are described as behind closed door matches at the Lancashire club's training ground, so punters won't be able to head south and watch.

The game is scheduled for "this weekend" but what day remains unclear. Celtic are schedule to fly to America on 21 July and are squeezing in another run out before cross the Atlantic.

A statement from Burnley read: "Burnley FC are pleased to confirm our pre-season preparations ahead of the upcoming season.

"The club will be playing a number of behind closed doors games at the training ground, including fixtures against Barnsley, Celtic, Hearts, Newcastle, and Spanish team Leganes."
