Scunnered Derek McInnes left flabbergasted over VAR not getting involved for controversial penalty

Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes is set to appeal Lewis Mayo’s Dens Park red card - after being left feeling short-changed by VAR again.

He praised his side for coming back to salvage a point with 10 men after Robbie Deas’ stoppage time leveller. McInnes’s frustration was over Mayo’s sending off, which he didn’t think was a foul and if it was it was outside the box. That decision allowed Dundee to go 2-1 ahead before Deas netted in added time.

McInnes confirmed: “I will appeal. “Mayo can play against Aberdeen in the Cup because it is a different competition but he will be suspended for the St Mirren game so we will be appealing it.” McInnes was flabbergasted that VAR didn’t intervene to ask Colin Steven’s to look again at the penalty decision and red card. Dundee went ahead through a Will Dennis own goal but it was cancelled out by Marley Watkins. Dundee went ahead through Luke McCowan's penalty before Deas rode to Killie's rescue.

McInnes added: “We had to dig ourselves out of a hole after a refereeing decision. “I went to see him. “There is no infringement in the box, if there is a foul? “Its a bit untidy because Mayo has his eyes on the ball, it bounces and he gets himself in a bad position, but at no time does he pull Scott Tiffoney down.

Tiffoney falls down and it doesn’t look great. I can’t understand why Greg Aitken and the VAR team haven’t asked the referee to look at it. I think if he does, he doesn’t give the penalty and I think it actually makes him think twice as to whether there is a foul there or not. I am just scunnered with it.”
