Scottish Junior Cup final: Glencairn lost the cup 'in the worst way possible'

Rutherglen Glencairn boss Willie Harvey says his side lost the Scottish Junior Cup final in the worst possible way, as Findlay Frye bagged a last-gasp winner at Broadwood.

The Cumnock star struck inside second-half stoppage time to send the trophy to Ayrshire, and Harvey says if the ball had landed anywhere else on the pitch, they would have taken it to penalties.

Glencairn gave as good as they got for the entire game against a side from a league above, but just came up short in the end, as Cumnock’s fans went wild at Broadwood.

Harvey said: “It’s probably the worst way you could lose it. If that ball had fell anywhere else in the world it would have been cleared and it would have gone to penalties.

“It was quite an even match, and I thought it could have gone either way, so I’m just gutted it has gone that way.

“I’m proud of them, I can’t fault them. There are no losers out there tonight, and they’ll feel it, but in two or three weeks’ time they’ll be ready to go again.

“We’ve proved that we’re good in our division and we can match anybody in that division, but we always knew we could.

“We gave it our best.”
