Scottish Grand National LIVE as Ayr racing gets under way with Ladies Day

The Trainers' Championship is drawing to an exciting close and with big money at stake, the two-day meeting at Ayr has assumed even greater importance. We will be here live for both days of the action with the highlight on Saturday being the Coral Scottish Grand National.

Paul Nicholls currently sits in pole position to take title number 13 and he will send out Flic Ou Voyou in the feature race on Friday – the Listed Hillhouse Quarry Handicap Chase (3:30).

The eight-year-old chased home the very useful Killer Kane at Sandown last month and the form of the race has worked out particularly well in the interim.

At the bottom of the weights, don’t rule out a bold bid from Nietzsche. Brian Ellison is no stranger to winning big races on his raids across the border and the gelding should appreciate the prevailing going.

Nicholls and Nicky Henderson will go head-to-head in our first race at 1:45 with Shearer and City Chief respectively. The pair will need to give away weight to their rivals and both arrive into this assignment off victories. The official handicapper is currently unable to split them.

The appropriately named Flower Of Scotland could be one of the best hopes for the home team in a valuable Mares race at 4:05.

Carrying the famous Raymond Anderson Green colours, the grey is reunited with Ryan Mania and the pair proved imperious when teaming up at Kelso in December.

There is also racing taking place at Newbury and Leicester.
