Scottish Cup: Jeanfield Swifts will have no fear in third round "free hit" against Clyde

Jeanfield Swifts manager Robbie Holden has ambitions to continue rewriting records after guiding his heroes into round three of the Scottish Cup for the first time.

Football fans across the country were sitting up and taking notice when the scoreline from the Riverside Stadium filtered through on Saturday afternoon.

When the final whistle sounded the scoreboard read Swifts of the East of Scotland League’s Premier Division SIX, Elgin City of League Two zero.

Now the daring to dream Perth club will seek to continue a special journey after being handed an away tie against Clyde – also of League Two – in the third round.

“We are going to be the underdogs but we’ll take heart from the win on Saturday,” Holden said.

“It was no fluke and genuinely could’ve been seven or eight.

“The Clyde game will now be a free hit for us. We certainly have nothing to fear following our performance against Elgin.

“We have an opportunity to write another chapter in Jeanfield’s journey. You don’t always take it in when you are a player and it might be when you finish.

“Then you will look back on days like Saturday and understand what it really means. If we can keep rewriting records, we’ll be in a good place.”

Doubles from Dayle Robertson, Chris McLeish and Chris Scott did the business against shocked Elgin. It was 4-0 at half-time.

“We said before that we fancied our chances if we played at our best level,” Holden told the PA.

“The way the game turned out certainly exceeded our expectations.
