Scottie Scheffler's secret Ryder Cup weapon told him 'how much he sucked' as Team USA gear up for action

Scottie Scheffler is using a secret English weapon to derail Europe in Rome this weekend.

The world No.1 turned to Phil Kenyon to solve his putting woes ahead of the Ryder Cup. Scheffler was told instantly by the coach his work with the flat stick was rubbish and he’s sorted it. Kenyon also helps home hero Tommy Fleetwood and the American knows his value.

Scheffler said: “Phil teaches a lot of really good putters and he didn’t seem like a method guy, so he was the first phone
call that I wanted to make. It’s been great. He’s a fascinating person to work with. Basically, he just told me I sucked and couldn’t believe I ever won a tournament with how I putted. That’s what you want to hear! On a serious note, I had a feeling that what I was doing wrong and my suspicions were answered. It’s just I was trying to fix it in the complete wrong way.

“It’s good for me to have a little bit of direction. I think the second set of eyes with Phil was really helpful. It was good to get my brain in order and feel like I’m working in the right direction versus playing a bit of a guessing game.

“An Englishman in the American camp. When he came to Dallas, I was joking with him. I told him his stuff is going to work so well he’s not going to be welcome back at his home club when he gets home after the Ryder Cup.”
