Scottie Scheffler can't hide awkwardness as PGA Tour star discusses banking £47m

Scottie Scheffler was left red-faced as he addressed his incredible earnings on the PGA Tour.

Scheffler has enjoyed a superb 2024, having clinched his second Masters title and the lucrative FedEx Cup, which comes with a hefty £19million prize. Despite Xander Schauffele's triumphs at the USPGA Championship and the Open Championship, Scheffler maintains a solid lead in the world rankings.

The 28-year-old's net worth is estimated to be around $90 million (close to £70million), with a jaw-dropping $62million (£47million) earned this year alone. When confronted with these figures on the Pardon My Take show, Scheffler appeared somewhat sheepish.

"I did read that [online], yep, I think so. I don't really have much to say on that," he said. "It's been a fun year. I don't really think about the money very much.

"I think that becomes a big deal with the FedEx and everything. At the end of the day, I'm just playing golf. The money is just a gift on top of that. It's really all it is."

Scheffler then reminisced about his first modest paycheque from the PGA Tour and how significant it felt back then. He added: "I remember playing my first PGA Tour event as a pro. I didn't play great.

"I finished in maybe 40th place. It was two weeks after graduating from college and I made 30 or 40 grand, something like that. You get a text from the tour after each tournament telling you how much money you've made.

"I looked at it and thought, 'Oh my gosh, that's how much I got paid? That's insane'. So it's pretty fun. I still feel like a kid. I get to go and play golf and have fun."

Scheffler is gearing up for another lucrative event as he prepares to join forces with Rory McIlroy for a head-to-head clash with Bryson Dechambeau and Brooks Koepka
