Scotland captains in touching Ukraine message as Andy Robertson and Rachel Corsie vow to show 'friendship and unity'

Rachel Corsie and Andy Robertson have issued a joint statement on behalf of the Scotland national teams expressing their solidarity for Ukraine.

The men's national side are due to face Ukraine in a World Cup play-off in March while the women's team play them in a qualifier just two weeks later but the ongoing Russian invasion has put football into perspective.

Ukrainian football has been paused until at least March 26 - two days after Scotland are due to face them at Hampden - and talks have been ongoing over how to handle the situation with UEFA and the other teams in the bracket, Wales and Austria.

As things stand the Hampden semi is still scheduled to go ahead with the game selling out on Monday and the two Scotland skippers say that the teams intend to "express their friendship and unity."

A statement signed by Robertson and Corsie reads: "The Scotland Men and Women's national teams stand in solidarity with our fellow participants from Ukraine's football community.

"A match, no matter how significant on the pitch, feels unimportant right now, but we intend to express our friendship and unity when we face each other next month.

"In the meantime we pray for your wellbeing and the safety of all those people needlessly suffering.

"Until we meet, we send our love."
