Schalke's Simon Terodde goes viral for interview after win v Sandhausen

FC Schalke are closing in on a return to the Bundesliga.

The club who famously reached the semi-finals of the 2010/11 Champions League were relegated from the German top-flight last season.

It really was a miserable campaign for Schalke. They won just three of their 34 games, amassed a measly 16 points in total and scored only 25 goals.

But the 2021/22 season has been far more positive for the Royal Blues. They moved back top of the 2. Bundesliga table on Friday evening thanks to a priceless 2-1 victory over SV Sandhausen.

A second half brace from Simon Terodde, the German second-tier’s record scorer, secured the win for Mike Büskens’ side.

Terodde’s second goal came in stoppage-time after Dennis Diekmeier had equalised for Sandhausen in the 83rd minute of play.

It was pure drama and it seems the Schalke striker, who now has 27 goals in 28 league games this season, celebrated a bit too much both on the pitch and in the dressing room.

Why do we say that? Well, when Terodde tried to give a post-match interview, his voice had almost completely gone.

Needless to say, footage of the 34-year-old attempting to get words out and sounding like a teenager hitting puberty in the process went down very, very well on social media.

Schalke and Terodde have two more league matches remaining, a home fixture against St Pauli next Saturday and a trip to Nurnberg on May 15th.

Victory in both those games would secure promotion to the Bundesliga, although it’s very likely that only one win will be necessary in order to finish in the top two.
