Scene of carnage as driver, 18, seriously injured and homes EVACUATED after Seat Leon smashes into properties and 'several' cars

An 18-year-old man has been left with 'serious injuries' after crashing into parked cars and two houses in the early hours of this morning (June 4). One resident described the damage as looking like a 'bomb had gone off'.

The properties were evacuated following the smash. Police were called around 3.20am today to Manchester Road, Tyldesley, and found that a Seat Leon had smashed into a bollard, several parked cars and two houses.

The driver of the car was rushed to hospital with 'serious injuries'. Pictures taken at the scene showed the destruction caused to the parked vehicles and the homes, with Manchester Road shut for a number of hours to deal with the collision.

A resident on the road, James, said: "My wife and I were in bed when it happened at around 3.30am. Something woke me up. I looked out the window and we could see a car wreckage on top of our car stuck to our neighbour’s house.

"There were lots of people coming into the street. I was on the phone to 999 because the car looked blown to pieces. I didn’t think the driver was going to be in a good way. The person inside the car wasn’t responsive.

"I came downstairs and saw my living room was full of glass and my car was completely written off. There was my car and another car parked behind mine. I only have third party insurance on my car so if the driver is not insured I am not sure what we can do which is really worrying.

"Our house looks like a bomb has gone off. We have a crack in the wall and the front window has been completely blown in.

"I couldn’t tell you how many police vehicles there were when it happened. There were so many. The car’s battery ended up 150m down the road."
