Scarlets 17-35 Glasgow: Dwayne Peel's side run out of steam as injuries take toll in bruising Euro semi-final

The Scarlets' European semi-final jinx continued as they ran out of steam against a powerful Glasgow side in front of a bumper crowd in Llanelli.

Dwayne Peel's side threw everything at the Scottish outfit in a bid to make the final in Dublin but a number of injuries to key players and Glasgow's superior bench meant they fell short.

In truth Glasgow were the better side with their pack holding the ascendancy for the full 80 minutes while they outscored their hosts by five tries to one.

The first half was far from ideal for the Welsh side who lost both tighthead prop Javan Sebastian and influential centre Johnny Williams to head injuries within the first 10 minutes.

Things got even worse when second-row Morgan Jones got forced off with his own head knock having come off second best after meeting Zander Fagerson head on.

It turned into a nightmare after the break when former All Blacks star Vaea Fifita had no choice but to leave the field with what appeared to be a rib injury.

On the flip side Glasgow were able to bring on experienced replacements to turn the screw on an underpowered Scarlets pack.

This was the Welsh club's fifth European semi-final appearance, albeit the previous four were in the Heineken Champions Cup.

The Scarlets were under the cosh from the word go with a break up field from Jack Dempsey putting the visitors onto the front foot. Glasgow's passing was crisp as they moved the ball from side to side before Stafford McDowall brushed aside a weak tackle from Steff Evans to score the opening try within three minutes. George Horne's conversion curled over to extend the Scottish side's lead.
