Saturday sport: Ireland come up short against France in Six Nations clash

Ireland lost 42-27 to France in their Six Nations clash at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Louis Bielle-Biarrey crossed over twice for the visitors as they took advantage of yellow cards for Joe McCarthy and Calvin Nash.

Dan Sheehan became the top scoring forward in the competition's history with a try at the start of the second half.

Antoine Dupont went off injured.

Winger James Lowe picked up a knock in the warm-up and so did not start.

Later, Scotland welcome Wales to Murrayfield.

That game in Edinburgh is underway from 4:45 pm.

The race for qualification for next year's UEFA Champions League heated up in the Premier League this afternoon.

Manchester City lost out on a chance to leapfrog fellow Champions League chasers Nottingham Forest following a 1-0 defeat in the East Midlands.

Southampton lead Liverpool 1-0 at half time, while Crystal Palace and Ipswich are 0-0 and Brighton and Fulham are 1-1.

At 5:30pm Brentford play Aston Villa and at 8pm Wolves take on Everton.

Limerick's clash with Galway is the headline fixture in today's Allianz Hurling League action.
