Sammy Watkins opens up about career struggles and 'blessing' to play with Green Bay Packers

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Sammy Watkins has opened up about his time in the NFL and the struggles that he has faced. 

To say that Sammy Watkins has struggled when it comes to his time in the NFL might be something of an understatement. Having been selected with the 4th overall pick in the 2014 draft, the first wide receiver off the board, he appeared to have all the makings of a good receiver in the league.

With 3,391 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns during his three years with the Clemson Tigers in college, whilst also boasting a 4.43 40-yard dash time, he came out of the gates flying in the NFL.

In his first two seasons, he put up 2,029 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns in what looked like it was going to be a promising career in the NFL, however things went south quickly after that.

Injuries began to take their toll on his body and having been the number one guy on the Bills, he had to settle for lesser roles with other teams around the league as he continued to miss games, moving from the Los Angeles Rams to the Kansas City Chiefs before signing with the Baltimore Ravens last season and the Green Bay Packers back in April. 

He did manage to win a Super Bowl with the Chiefs in 2019, but his numbers are far from what they were when he started his career, only once breaking above the 600-yard mark and not getting more than 5 touchdowns since 2017:

And he knows that things haven’t been great for him.

Speaking in an interview with The Athletic, Watkins talked about his career so far and the struggles that he has faced, but believes that playing with the Packers might provide him with a good opportunity to resurrect
