Man Utd: Ten Hag 'trying to sell his vision' at Old Trafford

Manchester United need to kick off their summer transfer business with a “statement signing”, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Red Devils are hoping to bounce back from their dismal 2021/22 campaign, which saw them finish down in sixth place, 13 points outside the top four.

The club’s new manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly keen on a reunion with Frenkie de Jong after the pair worked together at Ajax.

It has been reported by Marca via The Express that United have already put in a first official offer of around £68.3m for the midfielder.

Meanwhile, the 13-time Premier League champions are also interested in Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Liverpool want to sign Nunez as well, but United are in contact with the player’s agent, indicating that they remain hopeful that a deal can be agreed for the 22-year-old to move to Old Trafford.

Jones believes that if United want to sign the likes of de Jong and Nunez, they need to land a big name at the start of the window to make it clear that they mean business this summer.

When asked about the prospect of signing de Jong and Nunez, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I think they can do one, getting both is going to be tricky. The ultimate thing is, their first signing of the summer really needs to be a statement signing so it convinces others to come in. I know they’re trying to sell their vision to these players.”
